Freshman breaks state record in the 300H

State Meet Highlights

A week after the three division championships sort out team champions everyone returns a week later for the Meet of Champions and gets down to brass tacks to find out who’s really the best in New Hampshire. It’s a chance, for some, to focus on one event and get it right. The meet was held at Londonderry High School this year.

Top Performances:

- Sean Munnelly from Campbell was the Division 3 champion in the 800 meters but proved his mettle against the best in the state and ran 1:53.76 for the win as four guys broke 1:57.

- A week after placing sixth in the D1 meet, Tommy Harter of Winnacunnet ran 49.59 to win the 400-meter title.

- Hannah Parker, a junior from Div 2 Coe-Brown, won the 800 meters in 2:08.42. She had stiff competition from rival Maegan Doody of Oyster River, who ran 2:10.88. They had met a week earlier in the Div 2 championships.

- Sophomore Dominique Twombly of Oyster River was the state’s best sprinter and won her MOC titles in 12.19 and 24.98. She also broke the all-time state record in the 100 this season.

- Junior Shannon Murdock from Exeter won the 1600 in 5:01.26.

- Freshman Corinne Kennedy of Lebanon broke the all-time state record in the 300 hurdles with 43.54.

- The Nashua North boys 4x100 approached the all-time state record by running 42.99 for the win. The record is 42.86 set just last year by Bedford.

Top Teams:

A week earlier, the Bedford girls and Pinkerton boys sewed up the Division I team track titles. The Coe-Brown girls dominated Div 2 and the Lebanon outlasted Portsmouth and Souhegan for the boys crown. The Monadnock girls and Kearsarge boys won Div 3.

Top Competition: Twin sisters Anika and Leti Hibbard of Bedford tied for the MOC title in the high jump at 5-4. Anika won it on few misses at earlier heights. It was the same order as a week earlier, when Anika edged her sisters 5-6 to 5-4.

Record-breaker: Freshman Corinne Kennedy from Lebanon will be one to watch going forward. She took half a second off her best time in the 300 hurdles when she ran 43.54 to break the state record. She also won a pair of indoor state titles in the 300 and the 55 hurdles.
